Wells College :: The Education of an Extraordinary Life
Dedicated to a Life Fully Explored, Fully Lived
Wells is a nationally recognized private coeducational liberal arts college located in Aurora, NY, on the eastern shore of Cayuga Lake. Henry Wells, founder of the Wells Fargo and American Express Companies, established the College in 1868.
We allow students substantial freedom to create individually unique educational experiences. Small, smart, and connected to the world around it, Wells is currently strengthening its off-campus study offerings and introducing new athletics programs.
Friendships We Carry into the Wider World
Alumnae/i are the largest part of the Wells community. The College would be lost without their financial support, constructive criticism, and lifelong stewardship. Their stories are Wells’ greatest legacy.
Taken together, the narratives of our alumnae/i represent an amazingly diverse and accomplished history full of the things and events that connect us all—families, promotions, moments of sadness, the triumphs, the simplest joys.
Be in Touch
The Alumnae and Alumni Relations Office at Wells College is located in Pettibone House. Originally built in 1857 as a private residence, Pettibone was purchased by Henry Wells in 1869 and deeded to the College in 1875.
A beautiful example of the Gothic revival style, the house has served many roles during its many years overlooking the lake: residence for the college president, infirmary, dormitory, and—after restoration in the early 1990s—as offices for staff.
Come and say hello the next time you’re in Aurora.
